The public is now learning about the Boy Scouts’ “perversion” files, which were first obtained almost twenty years ago.
These files show BSA knew that sexual predators were using the Boy Scouts to abuse children in nearly every Scouting program, including Sea Scouting, Cub Scouting, Venturing, Scouts BSA, Exploring, and Learning for Life.
Despite that knowledge, BSA failed to take adequate steps to change its policies until the mid-1980s. So far, the Boy Scouts’ internal records have identified nearly 8,000 volunteers who were possible sex abusers, and nearly 12,500 victims of abuse. Many believe the actual number of abused Scouts may be substantially higher.
Not necessarily. Many laws have changed to help victims who were abused, even many decades ago.
Many state legislatures are sick of the Boy Scouts of America and other institutional cover-ups that allowed sexual predators to abuse millions of children over the past century. You do not have to suffer in silence anymore.
